GRADO
The Golden Island
Grado has always been one of the
most popular resorts in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
It was born as a port serving of Aquileia and castrum, later becoming a temporary seat of the Patriarchate of Aquileia during the Longobard invasion and finally the city of Venetian dominion included in the Dogado..
HISTORY
A popular destination for more than 1 century
At the end of '800, under the Austrian domination, the Lagoo City changes from simple fishing village to an appreciated seaside resort since the arrival of people like Freud and Pirandello on its shores.
Cultural influences are assimilated; characteristic features of the territory are found in the behaviour of its people, in its typical products and traditions.
Grado offers visitors the opportunity to discover the territories that surround it, which are practicable and can be visited in a very evocative way. One can cross the coastal waterway connecting the mouth of the river Isonzo with the Venetian lagoon; or else go cycling the Alpe Adria stretches that reaches Tarvisio.
HOSPITALITY
The Beach
The main beach of Grado, almost two kilometers long, is close to many areas freely available and provides a range of facilities suitable to accommodate the most demanding tourist in complete comfort.
A place where you can spend a delightful holiday thanks to the care dedicated to the beach, the services it provides and the complementary offers ranging from the renowned thermal baths to the entertainment facilities located along the beach and suitable for all age groups.
ACTIVITIES
For the whole family
The beach entertainment services offer various activities such as stretching, Pilates, yoga, aquagym, nia, Nordic walking, baby club, children's shows, events and happy hour.
The Water Park is located directly on the main beach, surrounded by greenery; a large pool of seawater with hydro massage and cascade jets to tone up your body, trampolines, water slide, children’s playground and a bar with underwater seats, for sipping your favorite drink while staying in the water.
During the warmer months of summer you can benefit the sand-therapy or sand-blasting; the oldest treatment process by the Institute Talassoterapico Gradese.

NATURE
The Lagoon
The lagoon of Grado, with its 90 square kilometers and a front of 17km is extended from Fossalon Grado to the island of Anfora, at the mouth of the rivers Aussa and Corno.
It represents the magical natural setting in which Grado was born and identifies the essence of the area with a myriad of islets, canals and streams that change colour at every hour of the day and in every season.
TOURISM
A tour around the Lagoon
The navigation in the shallow waters of the lagoon can be carried aboard "batele", a typical flat-bottomed wooden rowboat, with canoes and sailboats.
The beauty of the lagoon of Grado is provided by the point of view of nature; a rich presence of arboreal essences, a large variety of birds and the presence of numerous fishing valleys, make the area a unique experience for the visitors of the Golden Island.
The most renowned island is called Mota Safon and was chosen by the director Pier Paolo Pasolini to film some scenes of the movie “Medea” with Maria Callas as its main interpreter.

THE REGION
Friuli Venezia Giulia
Friuli Venezia Giulia was defined by Ippolito Nievo as a "small compendium of the Universe." The writer could not find better words to describe what can be considered a completely singular case among the Italian regions.
Geography has placed Friuli Venezia Giulia at the border of three main ethnic and linguistic realities of the European continent: Latin, Slavic and Germanic, which, over the centuries, have first clashed and then harmonized together, creating a variety of characteristics and traditions that make this area unique.
EXPLORE
From the Sea to the Mountains
In Friuli Venezia Giulia you can find a variety of landscapes and areas: from the fascinating Alpine peaks to the vast wetlands, like the ones of the lagoon of Grado, from the rugged cliffs overlooking the sea to the coasts formed by soft sand bar.
A treasure chest containing a beauty to taste and explore in different times of the year, adjusting one’s own personal experiences to the passing of the seasons and their chromatic differences in conjunction with flavors and typical aromas.
